| China and Slovakia held the first meeting of the China-Slovakia Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee and vice—ministerial level political talks |

On January 12, 2026, the first meeting of the China-Slovakia Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee was held in Slovakia. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying and Slovak State Secretary Marek Eštok co-chaired the meeting. Representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Commerce, and Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as State Secretaries from seven Slovak Ministries attended the meeting.
This meeting was an important step to implement the significant consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Fico. At the meeting, both sides spoke highly of the positive momentum of the China-Slovakia strategic partnership, had in-depth exchanges on cooperation in political relations and in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, culture and tourism, as well as education, achieving fruitful results. They unanimously agreed to continue to leverage the role of the intergovernmental cooperation committee mechanism, deepen the alignment of the two countries' development strategies, coordinate and promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, and continuously enrich the connotation of the China-Slovakia strategic partnership. Representatives from the two countries signed an agreement regarding the Bilingual Teaching.
